Biography

Langston James Goree VI, otherwise known as Kimo, was born in Honolulu, Hawaii and raised in Berkeley, California. (Kimo used his step-father's last name, Schulze, until 1984). In 1968 he moved to Walnut Creek, California where he graduated from Ygnacio Valley High School. From 1971-1989 Kimo worked as a professional actor doing stand-up comedy, film, tv and radio work. He is member of the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. His character "Kimo the Clown" was a popular entertainer at children's birthday parties in the Dallas, Texas area from 1975-1989. Kimo attended the University of Texas in Arlington and received a Bachelors in General Studies (Cum Laude) from the University of Texas in Dallas in 1984. In 1986 he completed a Masters in Interdisciplinary Studies at UT Dallas and moved to Austin, Texas to pursue a Ph.D. at the Institute for Latin American Studies. From 1977 through 1989 Kimo traveled extensively in Central and South America, where he learned to speak both Spanish and Portuguese. In 1989 he worked for UNDP in the Brazilian Country Office and then moved to Porto Velho, Rondonia to work as the Director of IPHAE, a Brazilian applied research institute in the Amazon rain forest. Kimo assisted local non-governmental organizations in setting up computers and helped run several tree nurseries that supplied saplings to agroforestry demonstration plots. In 1991 he created the Earth Summit Bulletin, which was renamed the Earth Negotiations Bulletin in 1993. Kimo has been employed by the International Institute for Sustainble Development as the the Director of the division Reporting Services since 1993. He has been married to Pamela Chasek since 1994 and has two children, Sam (born 1995) and Kai (born 1998)
